S-Cable Madness!!! WOOO!

Posted in Gear, Sessions on January 9, 2008 by Dave Gay

Well we need an s-cable to project the map from my ‘top to a TV. The correct head that goes into the computer should be circular and have a row of 3 prongs followed below by a row of four prongs (or so it looks like). I guess a projector would work too but I doubt anyone has one, and we’d need a cable for that, too. Anyways, we either buy one for about $39.99 by pooling some $$$ together, or you guys could do your group a huge favor and find one somewhere in your house and let me know by phone. Please everyone look, it’s really important that we have one, or everyone’s gonna have to pay dues of 5-7 dollars.

On that note, what does everyone think of gathering about $1 a session from each person and put it in a group fund? We could use it to buy group dice, more miniatures, and stuff like that. Maybe, oh I don’t know, a s-cable? :P Alright you all think about these things. Ryan’s got two drafts saved in the database so maybe he’ll post something before he hits the sack.

‘08 Week 2 Session and Dungeonscape

Posted in Resources, Sessions on January 8, 2008 by Dave Gay

We’re working around Robotics here, but Mike is doing his best to get a session marked for this week. We should have plans sometime tomorrow. It will involve a HUGE multi-level dungeon I’ve been working on for a few weeks called Witt’s End. It’s got a really cool story, and will be a great opportunity to use Rich Burlew’s “Dungeonscape” supplement. I will talk to you all about equipping for a dungeon expedition that will be at least one week long (game time, of course). You all will level multiple times in this dungeon, and there is also much treasure to be found. I will go over some great points Dungeonscape talks about for equipping for such an adventure, and then you will get some time to go shopping. There are a ton of great items and a couple chapters of things for players I will quickly summarize before shopping, though most of the book is for DMs. I have to say, Dungeonscape has proved to be one of the best supplements I have ever read. Unlike most books which talk more “roleplayish,” if you may, Dungeonscape talks more like gamers normaly talk about D&D. It goes into detail about many things, along with strategies for the base classes, along with good ideas for spell selection, dungeon preparation, and combat. It has a ton of stuff in it, including classes and such, and it helped me write that post about the Cleric. Oh well, I don’t want to get too into it, but I do want to make sure that everyone knows it’s an amazing book that’s helping me make a dungeon like I’ve never made before, Witt’s End. I’ll talk more about it at the session. Though I’m almost a year late (it was released some time in February ‘07 I believe) thanks Rich and Jason, for a great book!

And to all you readers out there, don’t worry, I’ll have a post useful to you next time :D . Also, If you’re a DM, get Dungeonscape. Now.

Tomorrow’s Session

Posted in News, Sessions on January 3, 2008 by Dave Gay

First off, Mike hit level 5 at the second private session he reserved with me. Maybe someone wants to reserve on besides Mike, now? Don’t forget, you can’t go higher than the player who is the highest level. Dom was 5, and Mike was 3, so after 2 private sessions he made it to 5.

Anyways, I’m setting up my computer for the session tomorrow. I may not be using Map Tool because no one has come to me with a donation or a s-video cable. I might have a suprise for you all that will make Dom verrryyy happy. :D

Great news, more traffic is coming to the site as a result of a few websites mentioning this site on theirs! Thanks to those websites that mentioned us, including DungeonMastering.com, which is now on out Pan-Dimensional Vortexes list.

Looks like we’ve got a really full house tomorrow at Dave’s place. Make sure to remember your dice, a couple sharpened pencils, references, and your character sheet.

Don’t forget, we’ve got more staff positions, so if anyone from my group, or even from another site (sorry, people I personally don’t know can only be Contributors, not Authors or Editors).

Thanks, guys!

RPTools

Posted in Sessions on December 28, 2007 by Dave Gay

First of all, Mike thinks he will be able to come tomorrow.

Now what I’d like to let you all know is that we will be using my laptop tommorow. I know it did not work very well the last time I used it, but that was because the program sucked ass and I was relying too much on it. I am using a set of 4 programs known as the RPTools. They are awesome, and all set up for tomorrow. I also got myself used to them. They are:

  • Dice Tool (A nice dice roller for myself)
  • Int Tool (Keeps track of player stats and initiative)
  • Map Tool (AMAZING tool that allows me to take any image and make it into a map grid. I can then put PC’s, NPC’s, and monsters on it for you guys to fight on. Some of it’s amazing features include: How far you are moving when you drag your token, templates for line, cone, radius, and such, changes to tokens if they are prone, dead, or whatever, changes to tokens for different sizes, fog of war so that players can only see areas that they have explored, and a full screen mode, so I can flip the laptop around with fog of war on and you guys can see where you are and move and attack and such)
  • Token Tool (Lets me take images from the net and make tokens with nice borders out of them for use with Map Tool)

These tools will not replace much, though all I will need are my books, and some dice for players who don’t have any. I will have a lot less clutter, no papers, battle mat, or DM screen. They are amazing tools, and will keep the game moving and exciting. Hope to see you tomorrow! Call me with any questions or comments.

The session this week has been aranged, courtesy of Ryan.

NEXT SESSION: Saturday the 29th from 6:30-9:00 at Ryan’s House

Sessions after that are planned to be hosted in this order: Dave, Mike, Me, Dom

Please comment or contact me for any questions, and to reserve your spot at the table if you have not already. In further news, Ryan has invited one of his friends to come game with us. He will be playing an Orcish Fighter, who will start at level one. Make sure to get your character all set up before the session so we can start immediately. This time I won’t forget to bring the adventure :P . I’m gonna use the laptop so that I don’t have as much clutter and only need to bring the five books I own. Don’t worry, I’ll have everything all set up prior to the adventure. Thanks, and see you in a couple days!
