I'm a huge fan of the Expanded Psionics Handbook, for the additional mechanics it offers. Granted, I'm a fan of Psionics in general, both in concept and gameplay. If you have a hobby shop that carries D&D material, wander in and skim over a few books. See if anything strikes you as interesting. If you like new takes on magic and magic-like systems, Tome of Magic is also worth looking at. If you're looking for a campaign setting, I find Eberron quite fun.
