Happy New Year’s Eve!

Posted in Gear, Holiday, News on December 31, 2007 by Dave Gay

I hope you guys are all out partying tonight like I am.

Did anyone see that we got a comment from Trevor from RPTools? Pretty cool, eh?

The next session has been arranged, you can see it on the Session page. I’m gonna bring my laptop again, but I also am getting a nicer and newer battle mat ready so that we can try that too. I’ve been using RPTools to help make a nice buffer of adventures. I went to go get some BattleTiles from How You Play The Game, previously Altered States. Well, apparently HYPTG’s plans didn’t work out or they haven’t started building yet, because there’s nothing there and a for lease sign in the window.

Actually, forget about the battlemat. I’m just kinda discouraged because the RPTools are perfect, I just need to figure out a way to not have to keep turning around the laptop so you guys can see the mat. Mike thinks he’s got a cable that will allow me to hook my laptop up to a TV so everyone can see it nicely. When I don’t want people to see what I’m doing, I’ll just unplug the cable or better yet figure out how to stop the on-screen projection without doing so. I’m pretty sure Dave has a TV where we played last time, right, Dave? Mike’s got a TV, I’ve got a TV, Ryan will have a TV in his basement when his turn comes around again, and I don’t know about Dom.

Our goal here is to use RPTools without becoming to dependant on technology. We also don’t want technology to take away form the D&D atmosphere.

Alright, I hope everyone has a great New Years! Huzzah and forsooth!

Hey Everyone.

Few things.

  • New page “Session” will tell you when, where, and at what time the next session is at, along with a few notes and who to call with questions. You can also schedual a private session with me to get caught up if you’ve fallen behind.
  • New page “AF Staff” shows the Alchemist’s Fire Staff and their ranks. Wanna be able to post on this site? Don’t wanna know how to post on this site? I don’t give a shit go to the page it’s got some important information everyone should know.
  • Mike and I had a private session at my house tonight to get him caught up since he’s a bit behind due to missing yesterday’s session. I got him up to level four.

Due to the private session I was able to practice more with the RPTools, and learned a few more cool things I’ll talk about Friday. Also, sorry to everyone about the miscomunication about yesterdays times. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it probably didn’t affect you.

Mike is getting his homebrew to me so I can post it on the site. Hopefully he will just join the staff instead and use his homebrew as filler posts. Comon guys, I need staff! Help me enrich Alchemist’s Fire!

Brief News

Posted in News on December 29, 2007 by Dave Gay

So I was wrong. Mike can’t come today. Oh well, Ryan’s friend can replace him. Only problem is that you guys are out a cleric. In fact, you now are without a divine caster all together. That’s gonna cost you in cure potions. Ryan’s friend is playing an Orcish fighter. Not a Half-Orc. An Orc. At least his strength is 20 at level 1.

The PHB II has some great ideas for improving your character. It even lists good feat builds, spell builds, magic item combos, and ability improvements, such as the all-powerful manuals. We’ve got 2.5 hours today, but with my laptop, we should be able to get a ton of powerleveling out of that.

I’m getting used to these RPTools, and I should be set for today’s session even though my list of things to do for the session is a mile long. It’s basically composed of me getting maps for the adventures and writing the adventures all together. Looking for a good map generator kinda put me behind schedule but I’m all set with that, now. I’ll make sure to bring the map that Dave drew all over stating plans for elven death. You guys are a bunch of racist assholes. Cool.

First of all, Mike thinks he will be able to come tomorrow.

Now what I’d like to let you all know is that we will be using my laptop tommorow. I know it did not work very well the last time I used it, but that was because the program sucked ass and I was relying too much on it. I am using a set of 4 programs known as the RPTools. They are awesome, and all set up for tomorrow. I also got myself used to them. They are:

  • Dice Tool (A nice dice roller for myself)
  • Int Tool (Keeps track of player stats and initiative)
  • Map Tool (AMAZING tool that allows me to take any image and make it into a map grid. I can then put PC’s, NPC’s, and monsters on it for you guys to fight on. Some of it’s amazing features include: How far you are moving when you drag your token, templates for line, cone, radius, and such, changes to tokens if they are prone, dead, or whatever, changes to tokens for different sizes, fog of war so that players can only see areas that they have explored, and a full screen mode, so I can flip the laptop around with fog of war on and you guys can see where you are and move and attack and such)
  • Token Tool (Lets me take images from the net and make tokens with nice borders out of them for use with Map Tool)

These tools will not replace much, though all I will need are my books, and some dice for players who don’t have any. I will have a lot less clutter, no papers, battle mat, or DM screen. They are amazing tools, and will keep the game moving and exciting. Hope to see you tomorrow! Call me with any questions or comments.

The session this week has been aranged, courtesy of Ryan.

NEXT SESSION: Saturday the 29th from 6:30-9:00 at Ryan’s House

Sessions after that are planned to be hosted in this order: Dave, Mike, Me, Dom

Please comment or contact me for any questions, and to reserve your spot at the table if you have not already. In further news, Ryan has invited one of his friends to come game with us. He will be playing an Orcish Fighter, who will start at level one. Make sure to get your character all set up before the session so we can start immediately. This time I won’t forget to bring the adventure :P . I’m gonna use the laptop so that I don’t have as much clutter and only need to bring the five books I own. Don’t worry, I’ll have everything all set up prior to the adventure. Thanks, and see you in a couple days!
